Caravan Fridges

When it comes to caravan accessories, the caravan fridge is one of the most important. With a great range of styles and sizes, there is a fridge to suit nearly every caravan no matter how large or small.

The most popular style is the 3 way caravan fridge, which derives it's name from the fact that it can be run from any of three different power sources, 12v, 240v and gas. This versatility is the main reason they are the most common type of fridge, as it allows you to use your fridge wherever you need to, rather than having to rely on being able to find a suitable power hook up. The only limitation on the power source a 3 way fridge can use is that you should never use gas as a power source when you are on the move as this can be extremely dangerous. The 12v or 240v power option should be used when your caravan is moving, only switching to gas when you have reached your destination for the day.

It is possible to also get compressor fridges, which run on either 12v or 240v power supplies, which are more suited to situations where you are unable to keep your caravan fridge on a stable surface which is something 3 way fridges require. Of course it means you will have to have a reliable power supply to run your fridge from, but this should be very easy to obtain either from a car battery or an electrical hook up point on a campsite. Regular maintenance of your fridge is important to make sure you get the best out of it, both in terms of efficiency and lifespan. Many fridges will sit unused for a good part of the year and it is during this time they can begin to deteriorate, so if you have space in you garage or can hook up your caravan fridge to the mains easily then it is a good idea to run it every so often to keep things ticking over smoothly.
