Carport Installation Tips

Author: Theodore Category: Auto Parts

Carport planning requires that you follow certain steps and procedures. The first and most important step in carport installation is the preparation of the site or area in which you plan to install the carport. Carports are large shelters that need a flat level surface below both to help the shelter maintain its integrity and also so your car can be parked on a safe area that does not contain slopes or pot holes. It is best to build a carport over a concrete or cement slab. The concrete offers both a clean level surface as well as an appropriate anchoring surface. Installation of anchors is not required for all types of shelters but in many regions of the country, there are laws which you will need to follow when it comes to securing outdoor shelters because of climate or weather conditions.

The next step is to decide whether to purchase a kit or carport plans. This decision will depend highly on your budget as well as your building skills. Building carports from kits is of course much easier than building one from scratch. The kits come with step by step assembly instructions and all of the supplies needed for the project. You should never skip a step or replace a suggested part with something else regardless if you are installing a kit or following a professional design plan. Similar to plans, kits are created by architects or engineers. Each step or part is necessarily to create a sturdy durable shelter that will last a long time and protect your valuable investments.

If permits are required in your area, you will likely have to wait for a county inspector to check over the shelter before it can be used. Permits and inspections may seem like a burden or delay but the truth is that were created with your safety as well as the safety of others in mind. The last thing you want during a severe weather event is a shelter that may topple over onto your car or worse, one that could easily become a large flying projectile.
