Reasons For The Car Heater Blowing Cold Air

There may be numerous reasons for a car heater to give cold air in-lieu of hot air. For this, firstly, you will have to understand the working of the heater before diagnosing the reasons of cold air. Initially, this heater does not have an electric element like the portable heater.

The component, which transfers hot air, is called the heater core. This heater core is similar to the car radiator. The engine coolant goes into the the heater core when the fan blow off air to the core. This enables the heater core fins to get warm, which blows hot air to the passenger compartment.

Check the engine coolant: As said above the coolant warms up the heater core. Therefore, if the coolant level is inadequate, there might be chances of insufficient warmth to transfer to the compartment. Low coolant level might not increase the engine’s operating temperature efficiently. Therefore, you will not be able to change the coolant problem simply by temperature gage. After increasing the coolant to its normal level, if you still face the problem of cold air, then check out for blockage in the two hoses. If one hose is hot and other one is cold, it is just because of the blockage.

Check proper airflow: The airflow system consists of the doors inside the heater that are handled by vacuums, cables and electric actuators. You will have to manage the heat between the two extremes according to the movement of the doors. It is easy to hear the sound of closing, in cable operated door. If there is vacuum operated motor then you will need vacuum to work, therefore, making use of a handy vacuum pump is recommended for this purpose.

All above mentioned tips can allow your heater for the car to give hot air instead of cold air.
